Saturday Rambling House (Samhain)

October sees the return of our quarterly Saturday Rambling House, an half-day event featuring a General Meeting of the branch followed by instrumental sessions, singing circles, and music & dance workshops. Potluck and full céilí dance to follow! This is a great opportunity to introduce members of the wider Portland community to Irish cultural traditions while bolstering our current MÓD community with convivial conversation, moving music, superb singing, deft dancing, and FOOD!

4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Welcome Session

4:30 - 5:00 p.m. Annual General Meeting (open to anyone interested in getting to know our organization)

5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Concurrent Cultural Programming:

Slow session with Mary Lowes & Mary Carey

Singing Circle with Geneviève Galarneau

Tune Learning Workshop with Teresa Baker

Dance Workshop: 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. Waltz Cotillion with Betty Woerner & Bill Milles. 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. Basic movements for céilí and set dancing with Phil Meehan & Christina White.

6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Potluck dinner and tuarastal! Please bring your favorite dish to share. Cutlery, water, and tea/coffee provided. Please also bring any Irish-related ephemera or books, albums, cds, cassettes, etc. regarding Irish music/song/dance/language in need of re-homing. Potlatch is an opportunity to gift these items to the wider community for use.

7:00 - 7:30 p.m. Potluck clean up, tuarastal roundup, digesting before dancing!

7:15 - 7:30 p.m. Dance primer with callers Maldon Meehan and Christina White.

7:30 - 9:30 p.m. An Céilí Mór — called set and céilí dances with live music from Joe Root and guests.

9:30 - 10:00 p.m. Collect potluck dishes, lend a hand in clean up and room break down, and then slán abhaile!
